Stop Timer:
First start a new game by clicking on a square. Then move over to another square and hold down the left mouse button. While it is down press escape. The timer should now be stopped. Note: This does not work in Windows XP.

Hidden Indicator:
There is a indicator hidden on the screen that will tell you whether a space is safe. To turn it on, type xyzzy, then press [enter], then [shift].
The pixel to look for is in the upper-left of the screen and therefore can only be seen if you can see desktop wallpaper there.
Note: This will only work in the Windows 3.1 version
